Exercise and Depression

Much research has been done on the benefits of exercise and depression. The studies have shown that exercise can help.


Depression is a serious issue that can truly leave sufferers debilitated. Fatigue is one of the symptoms of depression, and it seems like the last thing on the mind is exercising. However, exercise is actually one of the best methods of lifting the mood for depression sufferers.

Clears your Mind: Exercise has been proven to calm the mind and get rid of anger. Instead of yelling at your spouse or kids you can get your anger out in your strength training or kickboxing class.

Boost your Serotonin Exercise causes the brain to produce more serotonin and norepinephrine. These are neurotransmitters in your brain that help to reduce depression.

People suffering from depressiom need to commit themselves to regular exercise each day in a pleasant atmosphere. It is better to alternate different exercises on different days. For example, you can jog on Mondays and Fridays, swim on Tuesdays and Thursdays and strength train on Wednesdays.
